Those Who Love One Another Deeply (8 & 9:30)

Peter begins with the bad news of “The futile ways inherited from your ancestors.” We are Adam’s children, and know the futile ways of trying to be masters of our fate. Through Christ we “have come to trust in God who raised him from the dead.” (1:21). In him we have new life marked by “genuine mutual love.” This is the defining gift to those who are called to grow as a family of grace. The word for “genuine mutual love” here means love of brother and sisters. It is not something we manufacture it is grace that comes with our conversion. It is fear of failure or rejection that often keeps us from what God has put in our hearts. What encourages you to love deeply? What stands in your way?
