Swimming in the Pool of Insecurity

Swimming in the Pool of Insecurity

James’ letter is filled with proverbs. Each one has wisdom worth contemplating, but they also often open a wider door. Being “quick to listen, slow to anger,” could improve communication today, 100%. Yet James goes further. He helps us see the role listening to the Word of God plays in the drama of salvation. To truly hear the gospel is a step of faith in response to God’s grace and purpose (vs. 17, 18). The gift of salvation takes root in us. As we grow in grace the hearing of the Word is accompanied by doing. Without the doing of the Word we forget who we are. In extending grace to those in distress we remember the grace extended to us.
