We cannot deny how the language of freedom stirs deep emotions. Young old male female we long to be free. On “Independence Day” in this country we think of the promise of “Life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.” What does that mean for us and the rest of the world? Paul is convinced that real freedom is the graceful gift of God in Jesus Christ. Yet often we do not enjoy the gift given because we do not employ it to “serve one another in love.” (5:13) “It is for freedom that Christ has set us freedom.” (5:1) True freedom is not just being free from slavery, but free for loving service. How are we experiencing the Freedom of the Spirit?
