The Phase 2 Building Committee, created by Session in the
fall of 2003, was charged with overseeing the next phase of the First
Pres Facilities Master Plan development. Specifically, the Phase 2
Committee guided the building process through the congregation’s
ministry areas for input and suggestions, worked with architect Tom
Zimmerman in obtaining city approval, and has communicated with the
entire congregation
every step of the way.
Update:
On January 22, 2008, Session approved the following
six recommendations presented by the Phase 2 Committee:
- First Presbyterian Church not proceed with the redevelopment
of the Annex as outlined in the Phase 2 proposal at this time;
- the church staff and Trustees develop a list of essential “Must-Do” recommendations
for the Phase 2 Committee to consider in order to bring the existing Annex
to a safe and usable condition suitable for carrying out existing ministry
needs for the foreseeable future, the cost of which will be covered by current
Phase 2 contributions. The necessary projects will be approved by the Phase
2 Committee and Session;
- the congregation be notified of these decisions and that
an opportunity be given to people who have contributed to the campaign
to adjust their
pledge and/or gifts. It is hoped that people will
want to continue to contribute toward future capital projects, and we
will maintain a capital fund reserve
for future building projects; however, persons desiring
a refund of money they contributed toward Phase 2 believing it would
go toward the Annex redevelopment
will have their gifts returned to them;
- the Business Manager notify the city and our neighbors
at 1655 Walnut Street that we will not be proceeding with the project;
- the Session dismiss Tom Zimmerman, project architect,
with our deepest thanks and heartfelt gratitude for his hard work, patience,
and creative
solutions; and
- the Phase 2 Committee continue its work until the Annex
portion of the “Must-Do’s” are completed.
