Doorways English School for International Women

Mission: To welcome ladies into our community, help them to learn English, and provide the opportunity for our students to learn about the saving grace of Jesus by inviting them to attend the optional Doorways Bible fellowship.
Our Values: Doorways is successful when our students return to their home countries, having learned to express themselves better in our language, having experienced Christian friendship, with lasting memories of our hospitality, and carrying with them the seeds of wanting to know the true God.

Director of the English School
The director has the heart of a hostess, is a great communicator, and is skilled in administration. Primary responsibilities include presiding over school sessions, coordinating school celebrations, writing the Doorkey a one-sheet weekly newsletter, aiding in publicity, fund raising, and outreach to the students, and serving and working closely with other members of the board of directors. She enthusiastically supports the evangelical outreaches of the Bible Fellowship and Family Fellowship nights offered to our English students and provides leadership and encouragement to teachers and childcare workers to support all Doorways programs.

If you love to teach, have Wednesday or Friday mornings free, please join us in our mission to minister to international women. The textbooks are excellent so that classes are easy to prepare and training sessions each semester are also offered if you are new to teaching ESL. We teach six or seven levels of conversational English each semester. The English teacher is the heart of our ministry: teaching English, sharing our culture, and demonstrating our faith.

Hostesses have a heart for hospitality. Teachers bring snacks to the church kitchen and the hostesses prepare and present the food and coffee to the ladies during break time (10:20 to 10:35 a.m.) on Wednesday and Friday mornings and join in conversation. Kids Hope USA

Mentors and Substitutes: First Pres is ministry that gives hope to children in public elementary schools through a relationship with a caring church member. First Pres partners with Columbine Elementary in North Boulder. Mentors spend 1 hour a week at the school with one child in grades 1 -5.
Columbine Elementary Work Day

Organizer - Use those gifts of Administration/Leadership and those organizational skills to help plan and implement church work days at Columbine Elementary (Boulder). Coordinate with Kids Hope USA, Lay Ministries at FPC, and Columbine leadership to make it happen. Help recruit teams of 20 or more people for specific projects. Support and assistance provided by Lay Ministries and Community Life.
Work Crew - First Pres Church has a relationship with Columbine Elementary School (Boulder) through Kids Hope USA tutors. We also are forging an ongoing relationship with the school by promising laborers for work days each year—to spruce up the school, build gardens, do painting, clean up classrooms, plant plants, etc. If you would like to serve on this team, please call to have your name added to the list.
All Church Work Day

An All-Church Work Day when First Pres small groups and others join together to do major and minor projects to help meet community needs. Places of involvement may include local schools, low-income housing sites, working with non-profit agencies that provide for basic needs, helping at FPC, etc. Sign up to be added to the contact list for future work days.

Foster Families needed - Colorado has over 8,000 children in out-of-home care each day! There is a critical need for foster parents now! Foster parents provide temporary living arrangements for children when they are unable to live safely with their families. Today there are 875 children who will never be able to return home to live, the Court has terminated their parents' rights, and they are living in foster care waiting for their "forever" family. Be a life changer. Be a foster parent or adoptive parent for the children in your county and in Colorado.

The American Red Cross needs volunteer drivers to help transport senior citizens to their scheduled Doctor appointments in Boulder and Longmont! The Red Cross provides the vehicles and insurance. Attention Homes has 40 years experience providing residential treatment, counseling and a safe shelter for at-risk teens in Boulder and surrounding counties. Supervision, crisis intervention, assessment and emergency placements are available. We are the only emergency, short-term residential child-care treatment facility in Boulder County. Our second home is opened to assist with substance sobriety support for up to 12 months. Our 2008 needs include: - Adopt a Special Activity for the residents - supply tickets or gift certificates to a one-time special event or to the movies, museum, sporting event, etc. (for 8-14 year olds) See web site for complete list under "get involved."
Individual needed for office work - Need someone who is dependable to be a relief receptionist weekly. Hours/days are flexible - week days only. Phones and some basic office work.
Groups - come in and help with maintenance - Ex.: cleaning, painting, handyman work or grounds-keeping.
Meals on Broadway - provide a meal on a one time basis or monthly. You prepare the meal and drop it off at the shelter for up to 14 people or up to 12 at 2nd home. Guidelines provided.
Donation to Shelter - We have on-going needs for running two households for teens: food, personal items, or items for their weekly auction (incentives). A one-time donation or a regularly scheduled donation greatly appreciated as well as someone with a truck to assist with transporting larger donations on an as-needed basis.

Volunteer Readers - Volunteers needed who can clearly read ink print materials (mostly regional newspapers) for on-the-air audio broadcasts, to blind, visually impaired and/or print handicapped Coloradoans. Enjoyment in reading and the ability to read with enthusiasm is a must. Studio hours are variable: M-F, 8:00 am- 5:00 pm. Commitment requirement: 2 hrs/ wk. Volunteer orientation and training is available to learn procedures and use of equipment.
Volunteer Outreach and Committee work - Volunteers needed that wish to learn more about AINC and are interested in helping with community outreach and various fundraising activities. Tutoring Program - Volunteers are matched with children and teens that would benefit from homework help. Many kids are in out-of-home placement & their education has been disrupted. We ask for a 14-week commitment of 2 hrs/wk.
Mentoring Program - Develop a supportive and rewarding relationship with a child or teen from a troubled background. 2 hours per week, 9-month minimum commitment.
Children’s Nurturing Program - Spend one evening per week with children and parents involved with this terrific 14-week parenting course. Three separate classes begin 2 times a year in Boulder, Louisville and Longmont.
Case Aide Positions - Work directly with a Child Protection or Adolescent Services team. Build relationships, supervise visitations, and provide transportation while working with trained social service professionals. Requires a minimum of 8 hours per week, 4-month commitment.
Office Support - Provide filing, sorting, mailing, and other clerical support for a variety of department programs and service areas and special projects.
Family-To-Family - This holiday gift program matches community donors to high-needs, low-income families with children, and elderly and disabled clients. Community volunteers help with all phases of this program, from matching clients to donors to staffing our distribution centers.
Back-To-School Program - Our annual school supply drive helps low income; high-needs children and teens start the school years with all the required supplies. Volunteer help with assembling school supplies in mid-August.
Boulder Housing Partners

Group Adoption of BHP Residential Site - Group adoption of a BHP residential site requires a group of at least 5 persons who will volunteer exclusively at one of BHP’s residential sites. These sites usually have 20 or more residents who have low incomes and some physical disabilities. The volunteer work ranges from gardening and cleanup to individual assistance and group meal sharing. It includes spending time with residents during special occasions such as birthdays, holidays, and some weekends. Currently, we have two sites needing assistance.
Exercise Leader - The Exercise Leader position provides guidance and instruction in appropriate exercises for seniors and adults with disabilities. These activities will range from gentle exercise movements to more vigorous activities. Other exercise routines such as Tai Chi, Yoga, Walking, weights and resistance work, and exercises in the chair are also desired.
Gardener - This volunteer opportunity provides general gardening maintenance work for the three senior sites managed by Boulder Housing Partners. This position ranges from 1 to 3 hours a week. Fall period is an especially important time to get the flower beds cleared of weeds and dead plants.
BHP Volunteer Office Assistant - The BHP Volunteer Office Assistant provides general office work ranging from packet assembly, newsletter folding, envelope stuffing, copying and other office tasks. This position requires approximately 4 to 6 hours a month.
Volunteer Data Entry Operator - This volunteer opportunity provides data entry support for the BHP office in a variety of areas, budget projections, site budgets, utilities, and time studies. The projects will range from simple entry to complex calculations. The time required will vary from 3 hours per week to a possible 20 hours a week.
BHP Historian - This volunteer opportunity assists BHP to maintain its historical data, pictures, and accomplishments in good order for future reference and safe keeping. BHP currently has many pictures, annual reports, and other documents from its 40th celebration event that need to be organized and placed in protective covers to preserve them for the future. The organization of these documents will take approximately 40 hours over several months period. Follow up work with current documents will take approximately 15 hours over a two or three month time.
Current Events Coordinator - This volunteer position provides coordination and leadership of monthly discussion groups on current events for the residents of Walnut Place, 1940 Walnut and Northport, 1133 Portland, in Boulder. The coordinator will provide information and resources on specific current events of interest to the residents of the two buildings.
Spanish Instructor - This volunteer position provides instruction in speaking and writing the Spanish language for residents of Boulder Housing Partners. It requires ability to work with all levels of students and experience with adult learning techniques.
Boulder Parks and Recreation Services

Assistants - The Boulder Parks and Recreation EXPAND Program is seeking volunteers to assist in providing recreation opportunities for people with disabilities. Volunteers work in a group setting as companions and assistants in recreation programs, outings and sports classes. EXPAND is also looking for volunteers for special events which help raise funds for these programs.
Carriage House

Mission: The Carriage House Homeless Community Center is to provide a stable, supportive community for homeless men and women. We are committed to addressing immediate survival needs and to providing services which lead to employment, housing, personal stability and healing. Carriage House is a non-profit day shelter, which is open weekdays year round from 9:00am-4:00pm. We provide meals, showers, bus tokens, computer use, phone access, free voicemail and many other case management services such as assistance in housing and job search to homeless adults in the city of Boulder.
Women’s Hours - Weekdays from 9:00 - 10:30 pm are a special “women only” time. Activities include our weekly Peace Circle, Cooking Group, and Substance Recovery Group.
Donate Wish List - Ongoing needs include: sleeping bags, blankets, parkas, boots, socks, bicycle locks, bicycles, backpacks, tents, wallets, new undergarments, lip balm, hotel size toiletries, antacid tablets, shoelaces, hair clippers, and office supplies. A special need recently has been for eyeglasses, both prescription and reading. Donations may be dropped off any time Monday through Friday from 9:00am-4:00pm. We are located off the alley behind First Congregational Church, which is on the SW corner of Pine and Broadway.
Volunteers - This is an excellent opportunity to look deeply into the heart of homelessness. We have both full night and half night shifts open.
Emergency Family Assistance Association (EFAA)

Food Bank Assistant - Organize, stock shelves and clean up in food pantry, help supervise student volunteers. Minimum 2 hours per week with a 3 month commitment. Ability and willingness to be physically active, varying degrees of lifting involved. Currently need volunteers on Mondays, Tuesday & Thursday afternoon and Friday mornings.
Intake Workers - Interview clients seeking Basic Needs assistance, identify needs, offer appropriate assistance and referrals, assist clients as they select food in the food pantry, complete intake records. Minimum 3 1/2 hours per week, 6 month commitment. Good communication skills and an interest in working with people are essential. Computer data entry. Spanish helpful but not required.
Furniture Giver - Distribute furniture to clients at Boulder warehouse, as part of small team. Keep records of furniture distributed. Saturday between 12-2:30pm. Spanish helpful. Ability to assist in lifting furniture.
Children’s Program Volunteer – Assist children with homework and various recreational activities. Research group activities and request donations, lead a one-time or regularly scheduled craft or activity. Volunteers needed in Lafayette and Longmont.
Faith in Action

Faith in action matches volunteers with persons of all ages who have a disability, in order for that person to be able to do something in the community that would be impossible without a volunteer. Some training is available for specific tasks. Current needs:
Companionship for Seniors - We have a need for a companion to "go for coffee" or "to a restaurant" or just for a ride or to visit in their home.
Drivers needed - Do you like to drive? "Take a senior to the doctor's office, church, or grocery store. This would be great for a stay-at-home Mom with young children. The children could ride along for this ministry. Transportation opportunities are especially needed to help seniors be able to worship in a congregation of their choice, but who no longer drive themselves."
Giving a Caregiver a Break - We need volunteers to sit with a disabled adult for a couple of hours while the caregiver takes a break.
Give Mom and Dad a Break - Sit with a disabled child while Mom and Dad go out for an evening.
Handymen & Handywomen - We have families who need some things fixed around the house. We also need able-bodied people of all ages, families are welcome to volunteer, to help carry boxes and move light furniture for people who need to change living places.
Helping with yard and house work - One-time, morning or afternoon, help with yard and/or housework. People of all ages can volunteer.
Leisure Activities - We have some adult males who need friends to do leisure activities such as a) go to the gym and work out, b) talk walks on the bike path, c) do puzzles together in their home.

Committee Members - Several committees are recruiting new members on an on-going basis. Committees that have openings for new members at this time are Building, Communications, Development, Faith Relations, & Family Services.
Crew Leader - Crew Leaders are volunteers that oversee a small group of first time volunteers on the construction site. A time commitment is required and training is provided.
Donation Intake - Assist with the intake of donations at the Habitat Thrift Store. Must be able to lift heavy objects and become familiar with what items can and can not be accepted.
Office/Admin - Assist with general office administration/secretarial work by volunteering once per week for approximately 3 hours. Tasks may include answering phones, preparing mailings, making copies, filing and/or data entry. General computer skills are helpful.
Volunteer Editor and Writers - Write articles for publication in the HomesFront newsletter. Choose from a list of predetermined topics; conduct interviews as needed and submit article by deadline.

Volunteer Opportunities: Drivers and substitutes are needed to deliver meals weekdays (M-F) from 11:00 am - 12:30 pm. We are also in need of early morning packers (7-8:30am), lunch packers (9:30 am - 11:30 am) and lunch servers (11:00 am - 1:00 am), as well as occasional substitutes for these positions. Other opportunities include: Café Host/Hostess (11:15am-12:45pm) M-F, office volunteers, 3-4 hours a week. We ask that volunteers commit to one day a week though not necessarily every week. If you have other talents or interests regarding volunteering with us, let’s talk! And, if you know of someone who could use our services - for two weeks, two months, two years, or longer – please let them know about our services.
Mother House

Mother House is in need of mentors for the Big SIS (Simply Incredible Support) program. This person would become a personal confidante/friend to a pregnant woman staying at our residence. They would assist in taking them shopping, doctor's appointments, lunch or just being there as their own personal friend. Mother House is also looking for speakers for the Monday Night Meeting. Speakers would cover various topics that apply to a homeless and pregnant woman about to become a single parenting mother. Example: Computer skills, writing a resume, applying for jobs, budgeting, legal matters, cooking, sewing, etc. We are also in daily need of household cleaning products, laundry soaps, nonperishable foods, toilet tissue, paper towels, gently used maternity clothing, newborn baby diapers, wipes and new baby clothing. Project Linus

It's easy to help Project Linus. Simply make a blanket and donate it to Project Linus. Your blanket will be given to a child in need.
Our volunteers, known as "Blanketeers", provide new, handmade, washable blankets to be given as gifts to any child, ages 0-18 in need of a warm hug. All styles of blankets are welcome, including quilts, tied comforters, fleece blankets, crocheted or knitted afghans, and receiving blankets in child-friendly colors. All blankets should be handmade of new, washable, soft, child-friendly fabric and yarns. Suggested blanket sizes are:
- Baby – 36: x 36” or 36” x 42”
- Toddlers – 45” x 50” to 52”
- Kidlets – 45” x 52” to 58”
- Teen – 45” x 72”
Blankets can be dropped off at JoAnn’s Fabrics in Boulder. Not a Blanketeer but still want to help? We accept monetary donations and gifts in kind donations of new washable fabric, yarn and thread.
Real Choices Pregnancy Care Center

Church Liaison - Serve as a liaison between Real Choices and your church family. Stock your church with our service brochures, post announcements, and informational fliers, encourage members to become involved with our ministry by volunteering or participating in annual fundraising events. Time commitment: Fulfill responsibilities as your schedule permits; attend Church Liaison meetings 3 times per year and help with projects, programs and events as you wish. Volunteer Orientation required.
Prayer Team - Prayer Warriors needed to lift up the needs of our ministry in daily prayer! Receive weekly email list of prayer requests and keep us close in your prayers. Computer with email access required.
Office Angel - Answer phones, greet clients and assist with office projects. Help is needed Monday through Thursday between 9 -4 pm at our Lafayette office. Time commitment: You choose the day and hours that work best for you weekly or bimonthly. Volunteer Orientation and Telephone Training Required.
Special Events - Help with fundraising or client events. Our annual events include: Fall Fundraising Banquet, Christmas Adopt-A-Mom program, Mother’s Day Tea, Client Thanksgiving Pot Luck, and Golf Tournament held in June.

Client Advocate - Meet with clients who come in for a pregnancy test. Offer support; provide educational information and help clients explore all choices before making a decision about their unexpected pregnancy.
Time Commitment: Minimum of 2 hours a week at either the Boulder of Lafayette office.

Mentor - Volunteer to be a client mentor. This is a one-on-one relationship providing guidance and support during a client’s pregnancy. Time Commitment: Weekly contact with client as your schedule permits. Volunteer Orientation and Mentor Training required.
Meals for Moms - Provide a meal for a new mom when she comes home from the hospital. If you enjoy cooking and making people smile consider helping with Meals for Moms. Time Commitment: Flexible. Volunteer Orientation required.
Clothing Closet Coordinator of Donations for our Clothing Closet needed to take calls regarding donations and arrange for drop off. Sort donations and prepare them for our Clothing Closet. Help at the Clothing Closet – meet and greet clients, sort and hang clothing and keep closet organized. Time Commitment: Flexible Volunteer Orientation required.
Fatherhood Program
Mentors - Help men be the best Daddy they can be by volunteering as a mentor to our Fathers of the Baby (FOBs).
Facilitators – Men are needed to facilitate Real Choices Life Skills curriculum with a small group of FOBs.
Time Commitment: 2 hours per week. Volunteer Orientation and Mentor Training required.
Respite and Special Friend Volunteer Program

Our volunteers, once trained, are paired one-on-one with frail elder citizens who either live alone or with a family caregiver. During weekly two-hour visits, volunteers provide friendship, reassurance and companion level assistance with activities such as reading, shopping and social outings. If the older adult lives with a family member, your visits enable that person to take a much-needed break (respite). Male and female volunteers, 21-years and older, are needed for placement throughout Boulder County. Most visiting takes place during daytime hours, though anyone with some spare time and a kind heart is welcome. YOU can make a positive difference in the life of an older adult! MISSION: committed to serving battered women and children in Boulder County since 1979.
SPAN holds 42-hour Paraprofessional Volunteer Training, including a comprehensive overview of Domestic Violence, crisis intervention skills, anti-racism/anti-oppression training, and information on how to use positive personal action to end violence and promote peace.
Volunteer opportunities include, but are not limited to Victim Advocacy, Shelter/Crisis Line Volunteer, Children’s Volunteering, and Court Advocacy. All community members, multi-lingual and multi-cultural people, are encouraged to apply.

Foodbank – Restock shelves with incoming donations, prepare food boxes for distributions, pack toiletry bags that are distributed daily with our food orders. Prepare food orders during food bank hours.
Thrift Store – Greet thrift store patrons and make them feel welcome. Stock and tidy shelves; restock misplaced items and send all un-priced items back down to pricing. Organize books, linens, clothing items, or aide in the check-out process at the register.

Voices for Children CASA of Boulder County

Mission: Voices For Children CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) is a non-profit agency in Boulder County that provides urgently needed service in our community for children who are victims of abuse and neglect. The agency recruits and trains volunteers to work as CASAs who advocate for and provide services to child victims of abuse and neglect. Volunteers - Each Fall Voices For Children recruits volunteers as CASAs. There is a thorough screening procedure. If accepted, each volunteer receives a 40-hour training course) prior to the assignment of a case. Once assigned to a case, the average time commitment is approx. 12 hours per month.
Board Members - A community-based board of directors directs the agency. VFC is always looking for individuals that are interested and willing to serve on the board. The board meets once a month and each board member also participates in 1-2 working committees. The average time commitment is approx. 5 hours per month. The board also has several committees which welcome non-board participation.
Light of Hope Events - Table captains are needed who will invite seven friends to attend these events to learn more about Voices For Children CASA. THERE IS NO CHARGE FOR EITHER EVENT. Guests will be asked to make a multi-year financial pledge but are under no obligation to do so. If you would like to be a table captain, please call today.
CASA Kids Cards and Bracelets - Beautiful holiday cards and note cards designed by children; colorful bead bracelets with handmade clay beads showing children’s faces are available year-round. Volunteers can help with filling orders. All sales benefit Voices For Children CASA.
