ON-CALL HELPERS

Contact: Shirley Giles Davis at 303.402.6403 or

A few times a year we need a small team of willing people to assist with tasks that are often non-skilled, but necessary. This might include straightening pews following a concert, addressing invitations to events, setting up rooms, doing mailings, filing, or willing to fill in for the receptionist during lunch. This would involve answering the phone and being hospitable to those who enter our church. If you are interested in helping on a “once-in-a-while” basis, please add yourself to our On-Call Helpers List by contacting Shirley.

Other events include an annual golf scramble in August, career networking fellowships during the year and other events throughout the year. Men of all ages are welcome.

TRIPS AND TOURS COORDINATOR

Contact: Libby Brown, 303-402-6433 or

The Senior Adult Ministry is a pastoral care ministry focused on senior adults. It is a ministry dedicated to those who want to serve, need to be served and/or are seeking fellowship, support and encouragement in their spiritual and personal lives as they transition through the stages of aging. This is a SAM ministry that we would like to resurrect. The coordinator of Trips and Tours would plan spring and fall trips for seniors. For instance, last fall 17 people drove to New Mexico for 5 days at Ghost Ranch. They had a fabulous time! The coordinator would work with the SAM Committee and the SAM Director and would have their support. If you love to travel and can organize others, this position would be a great fit for you. "I think it is very important to provide opportunities for the Senior Adults in our congregation to enjoy new adventures and travels together in and around the surrounding states and Colorado. It provides time away from daily responsibilities and gives every participant a chance to see and experience God's creation in so many different ways, besides time to enjoy great fellowship with old and new friends. It is also so important for those who can no longer travel on their own. It shows them that they can still "get out and about" with the safety of being with a caring and fun group of people." Training available.

HEALTH MINISTRY

Contact: Daisy-Jo Weaver, Parish Nurse at 303-402-6423

This program addresses the whole congregation integrating faith and health. By considering the whole person, spirit, mind and body, it promotes health and wellness through health education, individual health counseling and care to those in need. This ministry is administered by the Health Cabinet and lead by the Parish Nurse. Classes and seminars on many topics such as disease prevention, nutrition, access to Medicare, and home safety will require volunteers from a wide range of health care professions. Direct care to those needing meals, transportation, or a friendly visit can be provided by anyone with an interest in and compassion for people dealing with illness or loneliness. Volunteers to the Health Ministry will receive orientation and support during their service as well as recognition by us and the personal joy we receive when we have followed the principles of Jesus. We are eager to hear from you!

This includes spending, getting out of debt, setting up a budget, attitudes about possessions, teaching kids how to handle money, investing and much more. Other major objectives of the study are to encourage people to experience a more intimate fellowship with Christ, to challenge each person to submit to Jesus Christ as Lord, and to build close relationships among the participants. If you have a heart for helping others and enjoy facilitating small groups, please consider co-leading a class. Crown offers training that will prepare interested persons to be qualified to co-lead a small group along with a more experienced person(s). You do not need extensive financial experience, just common sense.

This includes filling oil candles on the communion table, checking the table furnishings and the worship area for distractions. We need more substitutes for the two couples who are currently the Caretakers, and/or people to fill the oil candles on the pews for the Glory of Christmas concerts and the Christmas Eve services. UNIVERSITY MINISTRIES (THE ANNEX)

Contact: Bill Stephens at 303-402-6425 or Jennie Fletemeyer at 303-402-6429

Do you have a heart for University students? Did you know there are over 26,000 undergrad students at CU, most of who do not have a personal relationship with Christ? University Ministries here at First Pres. (U-Min.) relies on adult Associates to help multiply its ministry to students. Associate opportunities to serve include: leading Bible Studies, mentoring, mobilizing students on mission trips, housing University interns, cooking for events, helping cook for our Thanksgiving Feast, opening up your cabin for different small retreats, etc. All of our adult volunteers in U-Min., whether they are small group leaders, mentors or cooks, fall under the category of 'Associate.' The only requirements we have for Associates are that they love Jesus and are willing to serve and share their experiences with college students. That doesn't sound so intimidating does it?

Ways to get involved as an Associate:

Cook/Baker – We have plenty of events that take place throughout the year which could use your cooking/baking skills. For example, we have Women’s Retreat, Thanksgiving Feast, and Christmas on 16thStreet, which are all made more delicious by the food you cook and bake! Would you be willing to bake a batch of cookies or make a dish? Contact our office to assist in this way. Time commitment: as much as you want to cook/bake!

Core Group Leaders - Core Group leaders are Bible Study and accountability group leaders for our students on Servantship, University Ministries’ servant-leadership program. Core groups are gender specific and each

Servantship student is committed to weekly Thursday night Core Group meetings and a ministry area of their choice. Our Servantship program is large and we will need more leaders for the 2010-11 school year! Many think that one must have extensive Bible knowledge in order to minister to college students. While college students are critical thinkers, they just want to hear and be heard, (and be fed food!) gleaning from the life experiences of an older mentor in their lives. Time commitment: Weekly Thursday Core group meetings from 7 - 9 pm, 2 training times for the 2010-11 school year.

Host Family – Do you have a home that can accommodate a live-in intern for 9 months to a year? Host Family time commitment: 9 months – 12 months.

Cabin Connection – Do you have a connection to a cabin that can host staff retreats or small group get-aways? If you do, please contact our offices. Cabin Connection time commitment: varies.

Missions work – Do you have a desire to mobilize college students on summer long mission trips? Each spring we send nearly 30 students overseas to be the presence of Christ to others. This program is called Messenger. There is a Messenger committee of adults that interview students, investigate sights, walk with students, and train them to go. Time Commitment: Various weekends and mid-week meetings during spring semester, as well as walking with students when they return.

Mentor - We need mentors for college men and women! Requirements: Must love the Lord and be a great listener. Time Commitment: Depends on how long and how often you and your student would like to meet.
