First Presbyterian Church Boulder's Ministry of Music seeks
to serve people by preparing their hearts, souls, and
minds
to worship our Creator, Sustainer and Redeemer. We also seek
to support the spoken and written Word and endeavor to
lead
the congregation in the elements of worship while providing
avenues for renewal, fellowship and growth in Christ
to the
Glory of God.
Worship is our active response to God and is central to the
life of First Presbyterian Church of Boulder. In the area
of church music, we take seriously the role of leadership
and participation in worship. As the late Fred Bock, composer
and author said, "We have awesome responsibilities: to set
a mood by creating an atmosphere where God can speak to His
children, to minister to the deepest needs of His people,
and to teach through words and music the holiness, greatness,
and goodness of our God." We attempt to meet the needs of
this church in worship and in celebration, by providing opportunities
for people of all ages and abilities.
Our ministry serves the entire worshipping congregation at
First Presbyterian Church and the community at large. First
and foremost is the ministry we do every Sunday and holiday
throughout the year. The Department of Ministry through Music
provides worship planning and music for every worship service
held at First Presbyterian.
Additionally, the Department of Ministry through Music offers
concerts throughout the
year that are open to the public and often free of charge.
Summer Singers
Every summer a new choir is born at First Pres!
Summer Singers is a group made up of Chancel Choir members,
Rising Voices
choir members, and people from the congregation, who for
whatever reasons, don’t sing in a choir during the
regular season. This is a group that doesn’t have a
weekday rehearsal, but comes to church one hour before the
morning service on Sunday and rehearses music for just that
day.
Because almost everyone has times away from Boulder in the
summer, the group is a different crew of people every week.
It is a one-week- at-a-time commitment.
