Hurricane Katrina Relief Fund
A
special collection is being received to support those affected
by
Hurricane
Katrina.
If you would like to contribute to this cause, make out a
check to First Presbyterian Church and ear mark it:
- “Katrina - Rebuilding”
- “Katrina – Use as needed”
You may send your check to First
Presbyterian Church, drop it in the offering plate
on Sunday morning, or stop by the church office during
the week. We’ll make sure every penny goes to help
those in need.
If you have something of value that you feel may fill
a need, send an email to hurricane@fpcboulder.org.
Your name, phone number, and offered item will be included
on a list. If it is determined that a need exists
for that item, you will be contacted.
Some items that may be considered would be temporary
housing/shelter, temporary/long term employment opportunities,
household items, vehicles, etc.
We kindly ask that you do not bring
offered items to the church for collection as we just do
not have the resources for collection, storage, or distribution.
Hurricane Katrina Task Force
A Task Force has been established to find out
what other needs exist for the hurricane victims.If you want
to join the effort of any of the groups established by the
Task Force, please contact the person(s) designated
as leader.
- Long-term rebuilding efforts. We are
looking into how we as a church can help directly with
the rebuilding efforts in the affected
areas both
with financial
assistance and through the use of building teams. We will begin by contacting
local Habitat people to see about opportunities. This team will be at
work for a long time and will work in conjunction with
the Short Term Missions
Committee of the church.

- Allocation
of funds. This group will help discuss how to spend the funds
that are contributed by the congregation (nearly $40,000 to
date)
and work
to provide accountability of how the funds are spent. This group will
also look at anticipated future
fundraising efforts.
