First Presbyterian Deacons' Closet
Who is in need? How can we help? This is the motto of the First Pres Deacons' Closet, which is located in the Annex (corner of 16th & Walnut). The Deacons' Closet has grown from a tiny room off the balcony in 1956 to having served more than 5,000 people last year.

The Closet is open to the public from 9:30 to 10:30 every Thursday morning (except holidays). However, First Pres folks are welcome to "shop" anytime Thursday morning, and emergency requests can be made to the church office any day. The Closet will also be open Saturdays during the Lamb's Lunch season, typically October through April.

Volunteering in the Deacons' Closet is fun and rewarding. Think about Colossians 3:12, "Therefore, as God's chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience." ...the Closet volunteers might add "and with fresh clean clothes."

Volunteers meet at 8:00 a.m., Mondays to sort the donations. Starting time is 7:30 on Thursday mornings for more sorting and setting up for the "customers", but actually, volunteers can set their own schedules

Donations are received from our congregation as well as from the public, and the clothing is available to anyone, including the congregation.

We welcome and appreciate all clean, used and new clothing. As always, our greatest need is for men's jeans, everyday pants and t-shirts. (No electrical items may be given out.)
