Deacons' Closet

Our Mission
The Deacons’ Closet offers clothing, toiletries, small housewares, books and other miscellaneous items at no cost to individuals with special or recurring needs. We distribute clothing for all ages in all styles and sizes. The Deacons' Closet is located at the First Pres Annex at the north east corner of 16th and Walnut and is open to the public from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. on Thursday mornings. FPC members and individuals with special or immediate needs may receive personal shopping attention between 8:30 and 9:30 a.m. on Thursday mornings, or by making special arrangements through the Church office. The Closet normally closes only on national holidays, or when the Boulder Valley School District is closed due to inclement weather. We believe we are the only area organization that provides these goods free of charge.

Donations
We rely heavily on donations from FPC members and individuals throughout the community to fulfill our mission. We prefer gently used, clean clothing in average to good condition. Men’s jeans, backpacks and winter clothing are in particular demand. Donations may be left in the main church building in the hall outside of the janitors' closet just inside the west doors off of 15th Street.
We may place high quality clothing with a local consignment shop and use the proceeds to purchase new undergarments and toiletries that are needed by our clients who are homeless. Clothing not sold or taken by our clients is passed on to the Disabled American Veterans to be sold or recycled by them.
Volunteer Opportunities
We welcome new volunteers who are FPC members or friends of the Church. We enjoy a very relaxed, collegial environment. Bilingual volunteers are especially helpful to our Spanish speaking clients.
We work on Mondays and Thursdays and you may work as long as your schedules permit:
- We sort donations each Monday morning from 7:00 a.m. until approximately 8:30 a.m., depending on the quantity we receive.
- We begin sorting and setting up for the Thursday distribution at 7:00 a.m. Clean-up is normally finished by 11:00 a.m.
