Discover Your Gifts

What Part of The Body are You?

The eyes? ears? hands? feet?  Or, maybe you are the heart, the liver, or the pancreas?

What does this anatomy quiz have to do with church?  Everything!

The Apostle Paul says in 1 Corinthians 12 that the church is the body of Christ, and we, individual believers, are members (or parts) of that body.  Each part is essential--just as our eyes and our pancreas are essential to our lives--to the church's healthy functioning.

Paul then goes on to say that we have each been given unique spiritual gifts to equip us to do those things that God calls us to do in, for, and through His church.  Do you know what spiritual gifts you have been given?  Do you know how those can be used to glorify God and build up the church?

Taking the Discovery class at First Pres will help you know more about the church as the Body of Christ, your own spiritual gifts, and how you might best serve Him in the church and in the community.  Knowing your God-given giftedness can help you focus on meaningful, fulfilling service, while giving you the freedom and permission to say “no” to inappropriate commitments.

The content of the course is based on Scripture and makes use of assessments—passion, spiritual gifts, personal style--available through NetWork Ministries International.  Teaching sessions are balanced with individual application times and small group interaction—offering time for reflection and discussion.

If you want to know more about the church as the Body of Christ, your own spiritual gifts, or how best to serve, plan to take the next Discovery Class.  Check the website or the FPC bulletin for a list of upcoming dates.  Classes are usually offered once each semester, either as a Sunday morning series or a Saturday “marathon.”
